NEET UG 2026 Seat Allotment & Result

By the Envision Career Counselling Team ยท Last updated: 31 July 2026

In short: Seats are allotted by rank within your category and quota โ€” each candidate gets the highest locked choice still available. Check your result on the portal, download the allotment letter, pick freeze / float / upgrade, and report to your college with documents and fees within the deadline to confirm the seat.

How NEET UG seat allotment works

Allotment is a merit-cum-preference process. The system sorts candidates by NEET All India Rank within each category and quota, then goes down the list and gives every candidate the highest choice from their locked list that still has a vacant seat. Your rank decides your turn; your choice order decides which of your options you get.

This is why a well-ordered, sufficiently long choice list matters โ€” see our choice filling guide.

How to check your seat allotment result

  1. Log in to the portalOpen MCC (mcc.nic.in) or your state counselling portal during the result window.
  2. View your allotted seatSee your allotted college and course for the round on your dashboard.
  3. Download the allotment letterSave the provisional allotment letter โ€” you'll need it for reporting.

Results are also released as official allotment lists / PDFs. Verify your name and allotment against the official list.

Freeze, float & upgrade โ€” what to choose

Willingness options after allotment
OptionMeaningChoose when
FreezeAccept and keep this seat; no further upgradeYou're happy with the allotted college and want certainty.
FloatAccept this seat but remain in the pool for a higher choiceYou'd take a better college but are fine keeping this one.
UpgradeTry for a higher preference in the next round while holding the seatYou specifically want a higher-listed college if it opens.
Exact freeze/float/upgrade rules differ between MCC and each state โ€” always read the current round's notice before choosing.

Reporting after allotment

To lock in your seat you must report within the deadline: complete online reporting and/or reach the allotted college for physical reporting, submit originals for document verification, and pay the admission fee. Miss the reporting window and the seat can be cancelled โ€” sometimes with forfeiture of your security deposit.

What if no seat is allotted?

  • Your rank did not reach any locked choice this round โ€” you can participate in the next round.
  • Re-register or refill choices as required for Round 2, Mop-Up or Stray Vacancy rounds (see our counselling rounds guide).
  • Add more match and safe options next time, and use realistic cutoffs.
